Letter From The President
Thank you so much for visiting That Adopted Girl Inc!
When I go to speaking engagements the comment I get most is “you’re so passionate!”This is my attempt to communicate that passion to you in only as many words as a love letter might have.
I will start by letting you know that I am an adopted girl. Growing up, I struggled a lot with understanding my adoption and understanding myself in terms of being an adopted kid. I struggled even though I had all the support anyone could ever ask for – parents, therapists, friends and educators. After graduating from University with degrees in Communications and Sociology I found my self with a lot more free time so I decided to start writing a book based on my adoption story with the goal of raising awareness about adoption by writing unapologetically about being an adopted kid.
I had 150 pages of the first draft written, partly about adopted kid issues such as binge eating, depression insecure attachment and the journey of overcoming those struggles when it hit me that – had I faced the same struggles but not had the support of my amazing parents I would probably be in a much darker place in life right now.
You know who faces the same struggles that I faced, and often many more, without the support of amazing parents? You got it – kids in the foster care system.
I put the book writing aside in 2014 to start That Adopted Girl because I knew that I could raise more awareness and help more kids with a non-profit organization than with a book.
The reality is that there is no difference between me, and these kids. The reality is that there is no difference between you and these kids.
The reality is that these kids are worthy of everything that you and I are worthy of. They are WORTHY of self worth. They are WORTHY of happy childhood memories. They are WORTHY of people believing in them. They are WORTHY of continued personal development. They are WORTHY of love. They are WORTHY of hope.
That Adopted Girl is aimed at helping these kids grow and develop into awesome individuals with programs designed to inspire, empower, motivate, and uplift. The programs are designed to create happy moments, to provide a sense of hope, to create a sense of love, to instill a sense of WORTH.
I am encouraged by the hundreds of lives the That Adopted Girl team has already positively impacted, and am SUPER excited for the hundreds of thousands of lives we have yet to touch!
Your support makes it all possible. Seriously. That’s not just some cheesy line. Your support IS what makes it all possible. You’re awesome.
